You do not need to know which committee or working group you want before reaching out.
2. Follow-up
A chapter member reaches out so you have a real person to ask questions and connect with.
3. Conversation
We learn what brought you in, what capacity you have, and which chapter spaces may make sense.
4. Attend something
A General Meeting, training, political education event, campaign action, or working-group meeting can be your first step.
5. Find your work
Choose a level of participation that fits your time, interests, and organizing goals.

Chapter work ranges from recurring committee responsibilities to occasional canvassing, event support, research, design, logistics, calls, and other one-time tasks.

Common questions
Do I need to already be a DSA member?
No. You can fill out the local interest form before joining nationally. If you decide DSA is right for you, official membership is handled through the national organization.
Do I need organizing experience?
No. One purpose of the chapter is to help people develop organizing skills through actual work, training, political education, and collaboration with more experienced members.
What if I do not have much time?
That is common. Participation can range from occasional one-time tasks to recurring committee or campaign work.
What if I do not know which committee or working group I want?
You do not need to decide first. Attend something, meet people, and use the outreach process to figure out what fits.
