migrant rights working group

Defending our migrant neighbors, regardless of citizenship status, from detention, deportation, and exploitation.

The Migrant Rights Working Group organizes alongside immigrants, refugees, undocumented people, and their families in Savannah and the Coastal Empire. We fight racist immigration enforcement, workplace abuse, and criminalization. Our goal is simple: everyone in our communities deserves safety, dignity, and the freedom to move, stay, and thrive without fear. ICE OUT OF SAVANNAH. ICE OUT OF GEORGIA.

Focus – migrant justice, anti–deportation support, and rapid response to ICE activity.

Who we organize with: immigrants, refugees, undocumented neighbors, and allies. Our closest partner in this fight is Migrant Equity South East

Current priorities: rapid response, community defense, Know-Your-Rights initiatives

What we fight for

Our migrant neighbors are targeted by racist laws, brutal border policy, and everyday exploitation at work, in housing, and in the courts. The Migrant Rights Working Group pushes back by organizing locally for:

  • No more terror from ICE and police. We oppose raids, surveillance, and collaboration between local law enforcement and federal immigration agencies.
  • Dignity and safety for all migrants. We support campaigns for language access, safe workplaces, housing, and public services regardless of status.
  • Permanent status and a right to stay. We stand for pathways to citizenship, family unity, and an end to deportations that tear communities apart.

what we do

What the group works on will change as our migrant neighbors’ needs change. In general, the Migrant Rights Working Group focuses on:

Community defense and rapid response. Helping organize response when there is ICE activity, harassment, or urgent need.

Court support and accompaniment. Showing up with people to hearings, appointments, and check-ins so they’re not facing hostile systems alone.

Campaigns and political education. Backing local and national campaigns for migrant justice and sharing tools to push back against anti-immigrant narratives.

Mutual aid and direct support. Connecting people to rides, childcare, translation, and other material support when we are able.
