#1

June 2025

Welcome to The People’s Report, Savannah DSA’s monthly newsletter.
Each month, we share what our chapter has been doing on the ground—from mutual aid to migrant justice—and how you can join the movement.

In June, we’re celebrating Pride, preparing to resist ICE, and organizing around housing dignity. Read on to stay connected with Savannah DSA and our shared struggle for liberation.

📣 Next General Chapter Meeting

🗓️ Sunday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m.
We’ll meet on Zoom again this month while we search for a permanent space.

Events to Build a Better Savannah

Take To the Streets With Our Allies

Saturday, June 14, 11:00 a.m
Thomas Square Park (next to Bull Street Library)

Join the nationwide No Kings Protest. Our External Mobilization Committee continues to partner with Savannah Indivisible to organize rallies and protests against the Trump administration.

As Trump throws a military parade in D.C., Savannah DSA will show solidarity with people across Savannah and the nation who see the serious threat the MAGA regime poses to democracy. Right now, that means we’re working with many liberals who don’t necessarily support the sweeping socialist changes we do. However, these liberals ARE showing up in droves here in Savannah! Better late than never. This is a ripe moment for DSA members to show them that socialism is not a mysterious boogeyman, it’s the way forward!

Fight for Housing Security & Dignity

Wednesday, June 25, 7:00 p.m.
Virtual, via Zoom

Tune into the next Housing Working Group meeting to find out how to help the Savannah housing crisis. DSA has been fighting against the Savannah City Council’s upcoming vote on an “urban camping” ban similar to one Chatham County recently approved. Bans like these effectively criminalize being houseless, and we continue to collect petition signatures and speak out against them.
We’re also supporting organizing efforts by Frazier Homes and Yamacraw residents. Follow the #housing channel on our Discord to hear about canvassing opportunities.

Help & Hang Out at the Mutual Aid Sharing

Every Saturday, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Corner of 37th Street and Waters Avenue

Savannah DSA gives out hot food, groceries, hygiene items, harm reduction supplies, and clothes every week at our Mutual Aid Sharing. We need at least three people to make a sharing happen, with one volunteer bringing a meal to share and two people who can help with setup and teardown. Signing up to volunteer ahead of time helps out a lot!

If you have any questions about donations or volunteering, check out the #mutual-aid channel on our Discord.

Represent YOur Chapter

DSA National Convention is August 8–10
Chicago, Illinois

The DSA National Convention is coming up quickly and you could be one of two delegates sent to represent Savannah DSA! Unfortunately, you would likely have to cover some of the costs of travel and lodging this year (estimate $225 registration + $560/$280 for hotel depending on single or double room + airfare + food). We will be fundraising to help out our delegates.

If you’re interested in nominating yourself, please email info@savgadsa.org by June 4. We will have an online election later next week if more than two people are nominated. If you have the time and ability to be a delegate this year, please consider it, even if you don’t feel like you’ve been in DSA “long enough.” The national convention is a great place to learn from our comrades across the nation and bring that knowledge back to Georgia!

“It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and support one another. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
